Shot Blasting and its Uses

The process of altering a metallic surface or removal of substances from a metallic surface using numerous equipment such as spinning paddles or air guns is known as Shot Blasting. Here the word ‘short’ can be made of various materials like silicon carbide or tiny steel balls, sand, or little steel balls reliant on the type of scale, paint, rust, or other impurities that need to remove from the surface of the metal.

Prime Technique Blasting

They are different shot blasting techniques used for several industrial persistence. Some of the significant techniques are listed below:

  • Abrasive Blasting

Abrasive blasting, is also known as sandblasting, since silica sand is the generally used material for this blast. This procedure of metals comprises spraying of abrasive resources such as sand, water, high-pressure air, or fine glass particles at great speed on the metal to be cleaned or polished.

This blasting needs highly advanced and powerful equipment and is also referred to as pressure washing. However, for eco-friendly other organic material can be used as the blasting medium.

The machine and equipment that carry out Abrasive blasting equipment can vary from small-sized to enormous industrial-sized, which can be the dimensions of a trailer. Most machines are intended to hold a specific blasting medium via some enormous machines and equipment that offer more flexibility as to the medium that can hold.

  • Grit Blasting

This blasting is usually used to accomplish an iced effect on the metals or too sterile of paint from metallic surfaces. This is another method where the medium is used for blasting persistent sand particles. Mostly this blasting is used to smoothen the rough metallic surfaces or adding a rough texture to even metallic surfaces.

  • Bead Blasting

It is another offshoot where minute particles of glass are used for blasting rather than sand. This procedure is mainly used for scrubbing swimming pool floors decked with stains and fungus and is also very helpful on an automobile to sterile paint from the metallic surfaces.

Tips and Measures to while Operating Shot Blasting

It is imperative to follow the safety measures and tips while performing the blasting process to order to remain safe and sound.

All protective measures such as masks, gloves, and other equipment must be worn covering the entire body during the blast operations. Metals such as cadmium and lead can be tremendously toxic. Thus, only expert and trained professionals should be allowed to handle the blasting operation.

Whereas while conducting the operation of shot blasting that produces immense noise, so, to evade that shielding equipment like noise mufflers should be worn.
